6 tips for a long-lasting smoking system

In every butcher's shop, the smoking system is the centerpiece that gives the meat its character. Here, the product is not only preserved, but it also acquires its special note- an appealing color and the aroma that keeps customers coming back. But preserving this magic in the long term requires more than just regular operation. It's about the art of looking after and maintaining your smoking system so that it performs at its best for years to come.

These 6 tips are basedon our practical experience gained from working with dozens of companies overthe years:

1.     Clean regularly and thoroughly: The cleanliness of your system is crucial for its functionality and efficiency. Regular and thorough cleaning prevents the accumulation of dirt, tar and resin. This can have a number of negative consequences: Mold and bacterial growth, uneven smoke distribution, increased material wear and corrosion, increased energy consumption of the system and, of course, inadequate product quality.

2.     Replace motor bearings in good time: The motor bearings are crucial for the smooth and efficient operation of your smoking system. Wear and tear on these parts can lead to major damage, which entails corresponding costs. Preventive replacement is therefore a smart step towards extending the service life of your system.

3.     Monitor the controller system: A regular check of the controller elements enables you to detect wear at an early stage and plan any necessary service work or replacement of spare parts in goodtime. When it comes to the controller, it is worth opting for a simple and self-explanatory user interface. Many classic controllers have a front end that is littered with many buttons, fields and values. This increases the risk of employees making mistakes, which can lead to costly production errors. For this reason, larger companies rely on RFID technology on the smoking system. Employees log in using a batch and only have the functions on the system that are right for them enabled.

4.     Stainless steel for durability: Not only the smoke chamber itself, but also accompanying elements such as mesh cable ducts and water pipes should be made of high-quality stainless steel. This minimizes corrosion and ensures consistently high quality and durability of the system. Copper pipes and cleaning agents for smoke are not compatible.

5.     Check seals: Regularly checking the seals and repairing them at the first sign of wear is a simple but effective way to maintain the integrity of your smoking system.

6.     Minimize air leaks: Old and porous air hoses are energy guzzlers. Check them regularly and seal any leaks to ensure even smoke distribution and optimum flavor development.

In addition to these tips, we also recommend that you focus on training your employees. A trained eye can spot potential problems early on and prevent minor problems from becoming major ones. It is also important to maintain a good relationship with reliable suppliers of spare parts and services so that you can react quickly and effectively if necessary.
